NJ PBA Supporting Boycott of Tropicana Hotel in AC

New Jersey   -   The New Jersey State PBA has announced that it will be supporting a boycott of the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City.

A message posted on their website is asking all PBA locals to avoid and even cancel any events they have planned at the Tropicana during the PBA Mini Convention week which is scheduled to run from March 5, 2012 to March 9th.

The PBA convention and accompanying events are being held at Bally's Hotel.

The message reads as follows:

The New Jersey State PBA has been formally contacted by Bob McDevitt, President of Local 54, the majority representative of the Atlantic City Hotel and Casino workers. President McDevitt has sent out a request to all organized labor groups not to frequent the Tropicana Hotel and Casino , and also to cancel any existing contracts they may have with the hotel. Tropicana Hotel and Casino Corporation is seeking to terminate their members defined benefit pensions plans and transfer the assets to a cash payment to the employee or revert it into a 401k plan. Knowing that we have an event planned in Atlantic City in early March, on behalf of President McDevitt and the men and women of “UNITE HERE” local 54 I am asking that all members of the New Jersey State PBA stand united in solidarity with local 54 and not frequent the Hotel, Casino or Restaurants located on the Tropicana property.

The Newark Star Ledger covered the labor dispute here.  The website of the New Jersey State PBA can be found here.
