SPECIAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, CLASS II HIRING

Summary:

The Berlin Borough Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of CLASS II Special Law Enforcement Officer. The Department is seeking individuals who currently possess or will be obtaining a New Jersey Training Commission Certificate as a CLASS II Officer prior to June 1, 2014. Application must be picked up in person at the Berlin Police Department beginning March 24, 2014 and returned completed with a resume prior to April 11, 2014.

Essential Duties:

The Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II (SLEO Class II) is a part time member of the Police Department. The SLEO Class II will be required to work Municipal Court three (3) Wednesdays a month and provide essential public safety and law enforcement services for the department. Class II officers shall be authorized to exercise full powers and duties similar to those of a permanent, regularly appointed officer. The use of a firearm by an officer of this class may be authorized only after the officer has been fully certified and successfully completed training as prescribed by the Police Training Commission.

Qualifications:

• Must be US citizen
• H.S. diploma or equivalent and currently enrolled in an accredited degree program
• NJ resident, requires valid NJ driver’s license
• Must have the ability to read, write and speak the English language clearly and intelligently
• Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Have and demonstrate good moral character and have not been convicted of any crime constituting an indictable offense or any offense involving moral turpitude; verified by a background investigation
• NJ PTC Certified Class II (SLEO Class II) certificate or enrolled at an accredited NJ Police Academy graduating before June 1, 2014
• Must pass a drug test
• Must pass a Psychological and Medical examination
• Meet the qualifications of NJSA 40A:14-146 et seq.
