The New Providence Police Department is currently seeking qualified
applicants to fill multiple police officer positions.
Applicants must possess current New Jersey Police Training Commission
Certification or be currently pursuing certification as an alternate
route candidate from an accredited police academy.
Applications will also be accepted from Special Class II Officers that
are eligible for a waiver from the PTC.
Applications will be available beginning Monday, February 3, 2014 and
must be returned no later than Monday, March 3, 2014.
Interested parties can pick up applications at the New Providence Police
Department, 360 Elkwood Avenue, New Providence, New Jersey between the
hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
We will give out 100 applications on a first come, first served basis.
Applicants must also:
• Be 18 to 35 years old.
• Be a resident of New Jersey at the time of appointment and possess
a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
• Be a citizen of the United States;
• Be of sound body and of good health sufficient to satisfy the
board of trustees of the police and firemen’s retirement system of
New Jersey as to his eligibility for membership in the retirement
• Be able to read, write and speak the English language well and
• Be of good moral character, and has not been convicted of any
criminal offense involving moral turpitude.
Applicants will be subjected to a thorough police background check,
which will include criminal history, motor vehicle violations, previous
jobs, and personal and professional references.
Successful candidates passing the first phase will be subject to oral
interviews. The candidate offered a conditional offer of employment will
be required to pass a Medical Examination, Psychological Evaluation, and
