Carteret Borough is looking to hire Class II Special Law Enforcement
Sworn part time police officers that may only work up to 20 hours per
week. While on duty they have the same police authority as regular full
time police officers. Class II Special Police Officers must successfully
complete all training required by statute at a New Jersey State
certified Police Academy.
$20 per hour / 20 hours a week
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be a resident of the State of New Jersey during
the term of prospective appointment
Be able to read, write and speak English
Have a high school diploma or its equivalent,
and two years of college education or military experience
Undergo the same psychological testing that is
required of all full-time police officers in the Borough
Be a citizen of the United States
Be at least 18 years of age
Must not possess any physical impairment that
would interfere with the performance of their duties
Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver's
License with a good driving record
Priority will be given to Carteret residents, as well as applicants
who have previously served as qualified, fully trained officers in
any municipality of New Jersey, and who have completed their service
in good standing.
Class II Special Police Officers may be appointed to successive one-year
terms, during which they will perform duties similar to those performed
regularly by members of the Carteret Police force. They may also be
afforded special consideration for permanent police officer appointments
having completed their term in good standing.
Criminal background checks may be performed for applicants.
