It has been instilled in us since the first days of the police academy: We don' t give up; we never give up.

Matt Fox is a police officer with the Fortville Police Department in Indiana. Back on the 27th of July he was assigned to OWI (DWI) patrol.

At about 11:43 p.m., Officer Fox spotted a white Volvo with a driver's side tail light that wasn't working. 

He spun around and went to stop the vehicle.

The video below will tell the story, but within minutes of spotting the vehicle, Officer Fox lay dying having been struck by gunfire nine times.

How did he live?  It was probably something he learned in the academy: We don't give up; we never give up.
