Four Lakewood
Officers Shot

Four officers with the Lakewood Police Department were shot this
morning.
The incident apparently occurred during the execution of a search
warrant early this morning at 1154 Mackenzie Court.
According
to initial reports, one officer was shot in the face, one in the foot,
and the two others were hit in the torso but the rounds were stopped by
the officers' body armor.
Lakewood Township is located at the northern part of Ocean County.
The police department runs at about 120 to 130 officers and serves a
twenty-four square mile town of approximately 70,000 residents.

10:31 Update - Officers Identified, More Facts Released
All four officers who were shot have been identified. Their names
and injuries are as follows:

Wilson |
Shot in the face but in
stable condition. Currently at UNDNJ in Newark after
being transferred from Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Stable condition. Lt.
Meyer was shot in the foot and is currently in Jersey Shore

AP is reporting the facts as follows:
At 2:25 a.m., the task force consisting of officers from the federal
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, New Jersey State Police,
the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Lakewood police executed a
"no-knock" search warrant at the single family home.
As soon as they got inside, a suspect identified as Gonzalez opened
fire on them from atop a staircase, striking the four officers,
authorities said.
Police returned fire and shot Gonzalez several times. It was not
immediately clear how many shots were fired.
