Paterson PBA, hockey club holding fundraiser for
stricken officer
Press Release Issued by PBA Local #1, Paterson Police
Police and Law Enforcement News
Friday, January 27 12:05 p.m.
I would like to take this opportunity
to introduce Officer Raymond S Cusack, a 5-year veteran of the
Paterson Police Department and member of the Bergen Bullets Police
Hockey Club.
In November 2005, just prior to
Thanksgiving, Ray was hospitalized for a sudden unexpected stroke.
Doctors on staff at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood explained they
were amazed that the 34 year old did not suffer any deficits as a
result of the stroke, but will have to undergo extensive testing to
determine the cause.
In December 2005, after visiting with
several doctors, it was discovered that the cause of the stroke was
the result of kidney failure. This month, Ray will undergo a
catheterization procedure in attempt to drain fluid that built up in
and around his kidney. The purpose of this procedure is to “jump
start” the kidney into working order. If unsuccessful, Ray will have
to have his kidney removed, putting his law enforcement career in
jeopardy. Currently, Ray is projected to be out of work for the
foreseeable future. As a result, Ray and his family have incurred an
overwhelming amount of medical bills, which has created a great
financial hardship on his family.
As a result, members of both the
Paterson Police PBA Local #1 and the Bergen Bullets Police Hockey
Club have joined forces to host the Raymond S Cusack Hockey
Challenge. The purpose of the event is to raise money for a hardship
fund that has been established in his name to assist with the
various medical bills. The game will be a split squad contest
between players from the Bergen Bullets Police Hockey Club. All
players are police officers from various agencies throughout
northern New Jersey.
At this time, we ask for your
assistance in supporting our event and helping our brother officer
in his time of need. Proceeds will be raised through ticket sales,
T-shirt and puck sales as well as merchandise raffles from various
event sponsors.
