NYPD Officer Killed
in Gun Battle.  Funeral Arrangements Announced

NJLawman.com
Sunday, December 12, 2005 1:56 a.m.

Police Officer Daniel EnchauteguiNYPD Police Officer Daniel Enchautegui was shot and killed this past Saturday.

Officer Enchautegui, 29, was off duty at his home in the Bronx when he was heard the sound of glass breaking coming from the house next store.  He called 9-1-1 to report a possible burglary and then went out to investigate.

Witnesses would later tell police that they heard "Police! Don't move!" in English and Spanish before gunfire erupted.

Officer Enchautegui apparently interrupted two men in the process of committing a burglary.  They opened fire on the lone officer when he approached.

Officer Enchautegui was struck in the chest.  However, in an act of "the will to keep fighting" reminiscent of PO Dillon Stewart's actions two weeks earlier, Officer Enchautegui didn't give up.

He fired eight rounds at the two suspects after being struck.  He had eight hits.

Officer Enchautegui died less than an hour later at approximately 6:00 a.m. after being taken to  Jacobi Medical Center.

Two arrests were made, and both are in the hospital for their gunshot wounds.

One of them was Lillo Brancato Jr.

Brancato, a famous actor, starred in A Bronx Tale, The Sopranos, Renaissance Man, and NYPD Blue.

This piece of shit was arrested in June for heroin possession and more recently for a harassment charge.

Murder charges are expected.

Police Officer Enchautegui had just three years on the job and was assigned to the 40th Precinct in the Bronx at the time of his death.
